July 8, 2010

Greetings!

It is with great joy and hallowed anticipation that I greet you.  All roads lead to First Baptist Church-East Boyles, as Pastor Robert Alexander and the fine members of that congregation prepare to host us.

The 113th Annual Session of our Convention, along with the Congress, Children and Youth Convention,  promises to be a blessing to all who attend. Much effort and energy, along with considerate planning has taken place.  The program for the week truly includes all ages.  Mark your calendar!

Save the date!   Spread the word!   July 26-30, 2010 in Birmingham, Alabama at First Baptist Church-East Boyles.

Hotel accommodations have been made at the Holiday Inn Airport.  The hotel facility is extra nice and less than seven minutes from the host church.  We have been given a special rate of  $69.00 per night.  The number to call for reservations is  (205) 591-6900  or  1-800-368-5533.

On another note, I want to make a special appeal for our brothers and sisters in Tennessee.  As you probably know, thousands in Nashville were affected by the devastating flood waters a few months ago.  Many families lost absolutely everything they owned other than the clothes on their backs.

I have requested a needs list from the Nashville area.

First of all, please find attached the list of needs.  Secondly, I am asking that we would respond to the needs.  Those of you who will contribute will have to get the items to Birmingham.  During the week of the session and that week only, you may bring your items to Hopewell Baptist Church.  On July 30th the last day of the session the truck(s)  will be loaded and items delivered to Nashville, Tennessee to the  Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 2448 Herman Street.  Dr. Percy Clarke is the Pastor.

We owe a great deal of gratitude to Bro. Lavert Mickens.   Bro. Mickens is a member of Hopewell and he has allowed us to use his truck to transport items to Lake Charles on two occasions  and those items were then shipped to Haiti.  Bro. Clarence Dickerson, also a member of Hopewell, drove the truck to and from Lake Charles each time.  I am sure that this mode of transportation will be available for the Nashville trip as well.  Thank you, Bro. Mickens and Bro. Dickerson.

In closing, please make plans to attend the Missions Night Banquet.  Due to facility challenges, the banquet will be held at the Hopewell Family Life Center on Tuesday, July 27th at 7:00 p.m.  Banquet tickets are $20.00.

The proceeds from the Banquet will be allocated evenly to the Evangelical, Home Mission, and Christian Education Boards.

May the Lord continue to bless and keep you is my constant prayer.
